TOPSFIELD — As part of Town Clean Up Day on Saturday, April 28, the Town Keepers of the Clock are offering free tours of the Clock Tower at Topsfield Town Hall from 8 a.m. to noon. The Town Hall is at 8 W. Common St.
Members of the group will conduct the tours of the tower with its recently rehabilitated 1877 pendulum clock. Two years ago, the keepers repaired some of the worn bearings, put new gold leaf on the clock hands and added an automatic winding system so that the weekly trip to the top of the tower would no longer be required.
The refurbishment of the clock was accomplished at no cost to the town through the generosity of Sue Kimball, widow of longtime Topsfield Historical Society Director and Town Moderator John Kimball, as well as society volunteers. On the way up to the clock tower, visitors will see the headquarters of Topsfield’s Channel Ten and may overlook the Great Hall from the balcony.
Topsfield's seventh annual Town Clean Up Day goes on between 8 a.m. and noon on April 28. The center of activity will be at Town Hall, where street assignments will be made and trash bags will be available.
