Books in Bloom creations presented April 19: The Friends of the Boxford Town Libraries is offering a program called "Books in Bloom" to celebrate literature, spring, and the joy of reading.
The Friends of the Boxford Town Libraries have invited people to "make you favorite book come alive" by creating a floral/craft arrangement that represents a book of one's choice.
"Take your inspiration from the title, cover, theme, characters or feeling about the book. Books in Bloom is not a competition, but and opportunity to celebrate literature, spring, and the joy of reading," say organizers in a release. "Children and adults alike are encouraged to submit an arrangement."
People are asked to bring arrangements to the Boxford Village Library to be displayed for National Library Week and to include a display card with your name and the title of the book, character or story that inspired you. Submissions should be brought to the library on Friday, April l8. An artists' reception will be held Saturday, April l9 at noon to enjoy the creations. Call 978-887-7323 to let organizers know if you intend to bring in an arrangement.

Donate old sneakers on April 19: Volunteers from Sargent Elementary will be collecting used sneakers of any brand at the North Andover DPW, 384 Osgood St., on Saturday, April 19, 9 a.m. to noon.
The school has been collecting old sneakers for the Nike Reuse a Shoe Program since October, and have saved close to 700 sneakers from going to the landfill and incinerator. They hope to double that number by the end of the school year.
Nike only accepts sneakers (no sandals, boots, cleats, etc.), which are processed and recycled into material used in sports surfaces like basketball courts, tennis courts, athletic fields, running tracks and playgrounds for young people around the world.
For more information on the Nike program, visit www.letmeplay.com/reuseashoe; the DPW can be reached at 978-685-0950.
