April 10, 2008 05:00 am Most snowbanks have melted, robins have been spotted and the Andover/North Andover YMCA is filled with tulips — it must be spring. The YMCA is selling pink, white, yellow, orange, red and purple varieties of tulips for its annual Reach Out for Youth Campaign. The effort raises money for scholarships to subsidize youth and family programs, allowing the YMCA to continue its tradition of never turning away anyone who is unable to pay. Tulips are $10 for a bunch and do not have to be preordered. The Reach Out for Youth campaign runs through May. Michael Holland, owner of Holland's Flower Shoppe in North Andover, has donated all the tulips for the YMCA to sell, as he has for the past six years. The YMCA typically sells $1,000 worth of tulips through the campaign said Elizabeth Covino, director of marketing and public relations for the YMCA. As part of the campaign, the YMCA will phone area residents for pledges. The annual phone-a-thon raises around $60,000. Volunteers will call YMCA members and friends to ask for donations, Covino said. For information, contact the YMCA at 978-685-3541; to buy tulips, stop by 165 Haverhill St., Andover.
