Middleton Council on Aging

MCOA meetings: Held Monday, June 4, from 6 to 7 p.m. Open to new members and new ideas.

"Moving Forward," a new group for those who have suffered the loss of a loved one but are ready to move ahead, meets Tuesday, June 5, from 10 a.m. to noon.

Men's exercise program: Led by David Tucker, certified fitness instructor, Wednesday, June 6, from 11:50 a.m. to 12:35 p.m. Tucker works with you to best suit your abilities but also works you hard enough to keep you in shape, physically and mentally. Fee: $4.

Free computer lessons: Thursdays for Middleton seniors. Nonresident seniors are also welcome, at $3 per lesson. Learn how to use a computer, do Internet searches and have free e-mail accounts set up. Call to reserve 45-minute lessons, with a maximum of four, from noon to 12:45 p.m. and from 1 to 1:45 p.m.

Lessons are scheduled as follows:

June 11: Multi-tasking

Creative Writing Group: Meets the fourth Tuesday of the month. Led by former English teacher and staff member Joe Cotter. 10 a.m. to noon with special lunch to follow.

Billiards lessons: Wednesdays from 12:40 to 2 p.m. The time slot is dedicated to lessons for various levels. Coffee and tea are available, and lunch reservations may be made.

Topsfield Council on Aging

Day Trips: Trips are being planned for June 7 to Newport, R.I., mansion, winery and lunch at the Sea Fare Inn.

Mystery ride: Held Monday, June 4, with lunch at an undisclosed location. Participants can select and purchase a meal from the menu provided. Suggested donation is $2 for round-trip transportation. Call 978-887-6866 to sign up. Space is limited.

Meals on Wheels: The program offers hot meals at lunchtime five days a week for anyone over 60 who needs nutritional support. Small donation requested for meals.

Protective services for elders: Topsfield's protective services office for elders is SeniorCare Inc., which is available 24 hours a day for elder abuse or neglect and can work with the highest degree of confidentiality for sensitive situations. Call 978-468-1193.

SHINE (Serving Health Information Needs of Elders): Counselor Susan Winship is available by appointment to answer any questions about health insurance, including current changes to Medicare. Call 978-887-5169.

Adaptive equipment: The Council has a small inventory of wheelchairs, walkers, bath seats, scooters, canes and other medical equipment to be loaned out as needed. Call or visit the office to check out the availability of items. This service is free.
